 Latvian Road Museum
The Exhibition of the Road Museum

The exhibition of the Road Museum is arranged in the eight halls and veranda of the former dwelling-house of the Manor, as well as, Hill and Bottom Cart Houses and the cellar.

The exhibition in the dwelling-house of the Šlokenbeka Manor (built in 1841 – 1845) gives a detailed overview on the development of the Latvian road network and road sector.

The materials exhibited in the halls show the development of roads from paths to highways, the first log and cobblestone roads and the first road projects. Measuring instruments used in road designing and construction in the beginning of the century are of particular interest.

To ensure long lifetime and good service of a road it is necessary to take care of it. Therefore a special place in the museum is devoted to an exhibition on road repairs and maintenance.

Bridges are an imminent part of roads. A separate exhibition hall “From plank-way to cable bridge” is devoted to bridges. It is possible to see the structures, models and designs of different bridges.

The excursion through the Museum may be finished in the hall devoted to recreational activities of the road builders. The exhibition here shows both tourist activities and previously very famous song festivals arranged by the road builders.
